The fourth Knight of Illumination Awards, which recognises the work of UK lighting designers, recently took place in London.

The event, organised by The Society of Television and Lighting Design, The Association of Lighting Designers and Clay Paky, celebrates achievements in touring, television and theatre lighting design.

Award winners included Simon Butcher, for the TV drama Casualty, Roger Williams for Tonight’s the Night and Matt Carter for ITV Daybreak.

Nick Whitehouse was recognised for the last Kylie tour and Jamie Thompson for The Script's current tour.

Richard Pilbrow received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of a lifetime as a lighting designer, from the West End in the 1950s to the new National Theatre and beyond.

Pilbrow said, "We lighting designers have been rather belatedly seeking a little more recognition. When I began, nobody really wanted me at all...I must pay my deep regards and thanks to Clay Paky and the other sponsors for taking the lead initiative in this."
