Hager launches new product guide
Released 13 August 2008
Electrical product manufacturer Hager has introduced a free Ashley junction box guide to help electricians ensure they are not breaking new wiring regulations.
Incorrect use of a junction box breaks Part P of the England and Wales' Building Regulations 2000 and traditional circular junction boxes no longer comply with the new 17th edition of wiring regulations from the Institution of Electrical Engineers, according to Hager.
The new IEE regulations say that terminals shouldn't be put under undue stress, such as taking the weight of cables or fittings.
Some junction boxes may be installed behind downlighters or decorative light fittings, so when moving the junction box to position after wiring stress is often put on the terminal.
The Ashley junction box helps reduce the pressure on the terminal.
Hager's new guide sets out the requirements of the new regulations and how they affect the installation of junction boxes, recommending solutions for electricians.
Jane Yorke, Hager product manager for Ashley wiring accessories said: "Junction boxes have now come under close inspection. For many applications the traditional circular junction boxes will not comply."
