Electronics firm helping businesses go green
Released 11 August 2008
Electronics component distributor Avnet Inc has formed a new engineering team to try and help companies looking to change the electrics in their buildings to try and harness the energy efficiency of LEDs.
Avnet Inc's new team helps advice businesses on how to rewire their offices and operations to embrace LED lighting.
Dave Neal, an Avnet illumination engineer told EE Times India: "LED technology is our major focus."
The team of engineers design schemes for specific customer requirements, including supply and wiring. Avnet engineers then source the right materials for the particular needs of that LED scheme, with a focus on dissipating heat, as overheating is often an issue with LEDs.
Heat is the "biggest concern" with LED lighting said Mr Neal.
LEDs are popular in some hotels and casinos and the LED options for outdoor lighting are expanding due to the better level of control given by using this form of lighting, as reported on EE Times India.
According to LED Lighting Products.co.uk LED lighting can offer energy savings of up to 70 per cent as well as lower maintenance as compared to standard lighting.
