Released 12 August 2008
Beacon Lighting has announced the launch of Beacon Solar, a new retail business which will sell solar power systems in its stores and online, according to a report.
Trials of the product took place in Beacon Lighting stores in Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne.
Beacon Lighting managing director Ian Robinson said told Inside Retailing: "An average household that installs solar power systems can also save from $270 per year on energy bills with just a 1kW system"
Purchasing and installing a Beacon Solar 1kW system starts at A$12,495 (£5,760) and can provide up to 25 per cent of an average household's energy.
A 2kW system starts at $19,995 but will cover half of an average home's energy requirements and the biggest system available, the 4kW starts at $35,995 but could actually replace an external power supply to a home.
In related news, UK firm HelioDynamics is considering creating a one gigawatt power plant using solar combined heat and power technology, in conjunction with renewable energy firm EnergyMixx.
EnergyMixx recently took over HelioDynamics and has undertaken 550MW of renewable energy projects.
